Hallyu star Jun Ji-Hyun is back!
Earlier today, June 22, Netflix released the first main poster and a new official teaser of its highly anticipated show Kingdom: Ashin of the North
The 92-minute special episode of the Kingdom (2019, 2020) series tells the background story of Ashin, a mysterious character who was briefly introduced during the conclusion of Kingdom‘s second season. The episode will reveal the answers and clues to the beginning of the great tragedy that covered Joseon with the blood of its people.
In the main poster, Jun Ji-hyun (The Legend of the Blue Sea), who plays the mysterious Ashin, stands in the middle of a war-stricken background with a bow and an arrow in hand. Her face is devoid of any emotions as she stares straight ahead.
Meanwhile, the teaser opens to a group of hunters being attacked by a tiger deep in the forest. In the next scene, a young Ashin (Kim Shi-a, Perfume) appears and tells her father about a plant that can bring the dead back to life, implying that they use the plant to help Ashin’s dying mother.
The next scenes show clips of several corpses in the forest, strange wild animals, and people screaming and running for their lives. The teaser concludes with an adult Ashin standing on a roof in the middle of a burning village with the voice of her younger self saying in the background, “It doesn’t have to be right away. Next year, no, the year after. Please avenge them,” indicating that something tragic has happened in her youth.
Kingdom: Ashin of the North will be released on July 23 exclusively on Netflix.
